Earth Day is a time to reflect on what more we can do to preserve our planet. Coming up with ways to honor and protect it often feels overwhelming, but there are many small things we can do to make a difference.

Here are eight easy Earth Day activities you can do to show your support for our planet. Including friends or family (especially kids) makes it even more special!

  1. Go for a hike. Spend time in nature and appreciate all the Earth has to offer. Notice the details of the area and listen to the sounds that surround you.
  2. Pick up trash. Litter not only looks bad, but it’s also harmful to the environment and wildlife. Taking a stroll around your neighborhood or local park and picking up litter is a great way to show Earth some love.
  3. Plant a tree. Trees help to improve air quality, provide habitats for animals, and can even help to cool homes and neighborhoods, among many great benefits.
  4. Read a children’s book that includes outdoor activities such as the Connect with Nature Series for kids and their families. Adults without kids also learn a lot from these books! I know this because I wrote them. :) One reviewer’s email to me after reading one of them: “Damn! I thought this was only for kids, but I just learned a lot about the moon!”
  5. Make Earth Day crafts using items you would normally throw away, like eggshells or toilet paper rolls. Again, crafts are for adults too. Make something cool.
  6. Attend a LOCAL event. What’s happening in your town?
  7. Commit to global action. Check out these opportunities: https://www.earthday.org/
  8. Increase your knowledge and awareness with this 4-day summit. Perhaps you, like me, feel grounded when indigenous wisdom is spoken about being in relation to and with one another and with our Earth home. Beginning this Thursday, April 21st, the “Women Working for the Earth” Summit will continue thru the Earth Day weekend, April 24th. It’s a FREE event!

From your home, choose to listen to one or more of over 30 Earth-honoring speakers. Keynotes include Winona LaDuke, Terry Tempest Williams, Rosemary Gladstar, Linda Black Elk, and Leah Penniman.

See the full list of presenters at this free event here.

The event is free to join live, and you can buy a ticket to have unlimited access to 30 recorded sessions. Ticket sales help to make the event possible, support the speakers, and the Organization for Nature Evolutionaries.

REGISTRATION is happening now. Click here to register and read the speaker bios.

Summary

Earth Day is a great time to get outside and appreciate all the Earth has to offer. There are many ways to show your support for our planet, and activities like hiking, picking up trash, and planting trees are just a few of them. By attending local events or increasing your knowledge about global action, you can make a difference on Earth.

Most of all, have fun and keep it going all year. Every day is Earth Day!
